Gold Coast Stadium redevelopment - Carrara

A key part of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bid, the Gold Coast Stadium redevelopment at Carrara is underway.

The venue will have the facilities needed to attract other sporting, entertainment and cultural events to the region and with a scalable design, capacity can be increased to accommodate the Commonwealth Games.

The redeveloped Gold Coast Stadium is scheduled for completion in mid-2011, creating 950 jobs and generating $415 million of economic activity over a 10-year period.

Green energy

The stadium will also use the latest solar technology to power the venue, reducing the overall carbon footprint. Up to five metres of full solar clear photovoltaic panelling will be installed around the inner edge of the stadium's horseshoe shaped roof. This will maximise the venues solar harvesting potential, with the energy captured equivalent to powering around 250 homes per year.

Other energy efficiency measures already incorporated into the design of the stadium include high efficiency air conditioning, water chiller storage, energy efficient lighting, water harvesting, as well as other sustainability measures for reducing water use.
